On Friday October 18th from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, a free seniors crime prevention seminar is being hosted by the City of Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture and the Nanaimo RCMP.

The venue for this event is the Bowen Park Recreation Centre, located at 500 Bowen Road.
There will be four presentations throughout the morning. The first is on personal safety and will address how to stay safe in your home, in your community and while travelling. Next, is a session on Elder abuse. This is a crime and often it goes unreported. The Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services will explore this issue and tell you what you can do about it. After a mid morning wellness break, there will be a session on Frauds and Scams. The Nanaimo RCMP will look at door to door salesman and a variety of scams such as the Grandson scam, romance, inheritance and lotto frauds. This is not one to miss. Lastly, Lang Evans from the BC Securities Commission will present on investments. His presentation entitled Be Fraud aware will touch on the warning signs of a risky investment, how to better understand these investments and what questions to ask.

All of the presenters are knowledgeable, current in their fields and more importantly, are committed to ensuring seniors are safe and kept apprised on issues that impact them, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

As indicated there is no charge but seating is limited so please call to register at 250-755-7501.
