RCMP Arrest Five, Seize Drugs & Cash - Nanaimo

On Sunday October 6th at approximately 5 PM Nanaimo RCMP arrested five adults, seized almost $70,000 dollars in cash and 12 ounces of various street level drugs. The five individuals all have ties to the Red Scorpions, an organized criminal group while of the five is an active member of the group.

The project headed by General Investigation Team D and with the assistance of Team C and the Nanaimo Intelligence Unit, targeted street to mid level drug dealers in the Nanaimo area. Four of the five were arrested during vehicles stops on Nottingham Drive while the fifth person was arrested in his vehicle on Hammond Bay Rd. All five were taken into police custody. A search of their vehicles turned up $60,0000 dollars in Canadian currency, ten ounces of crack cocaine and two ounces of heroin.

The seizure of the cash and drugs coupled with intelligence gathered in the previous weeks, lead to the search the next day of a home in the 400 block of Nottingham Drive. That search resulted in an additional $6000 dollars in Canadian currency and 1.5 ounces of crystal methamphetamine and cocaine being seized. No further arrests are expected and our investigators believe these arrests and seizure of cash and drugs will have a significant impact on the sale and distribution of drugs in the Nanaimo area, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

The five individuals arrested ranging in age from 21 to 27, were held in custody over night and released the next day on Promises to Appear. Their first court date is set for January 14,2014 and police are recommending for each person one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
