Nanaimo seems constantly searching for the magic bullet in the world of tourist attractions which will cause visitors to flock to our lovely city by the sea. One might think an undersea aquarium where visitors can descend beneath the sea would be a great idea. Build it and they will come??
The Undersea Gardens which has operated in Victoria for 50 years, and this year had 80,000+ visitors is closing it's doors as it has simply lost its' mojo. Seems the cost to update to the newer, bigger, better aquariums the touring public is now looking for, is simply too expensive for our friends in Victoria.
I'm just throwing this out there, in anticipation of some movement starting up in Nanaimo to buy and move this Victoria relic to Nanaimo, if you are new here you will not know we have already tried that trick once before. It didn't work then either.
