The renovation to the old Free Press building at 223 Commercial Street is finally at the stage where the top floor is being framed in after a foundation-up renovation which has greatly exceeded initial cost estimates.
The top floor was on the original Free Press building but was lost in a fire and never replaced. When complete the building will be the home of local Nanaimo tech company Real Estate Webmasters a local success story which employs about 70 people. As the name implies they cater to Realtors in Canada and the US. About 80% of their clients are in the US.
The company hopes to move into their new home in the first quarter of 2014, with a target of February. This will be another welcome addition to the revitalization of downtown Nanaimo giving a needed boost to local shops located in the downtown core.
