The City of Nanaimo wishes to announce that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has hired Chief Constable Mark Fisher as the new Officer in Charge (OIC) for the RCMP Nanaimo Detachment.

Prior to working in Oak Bay, Fisher was OIC for RCMP West Shore in Victoria’s western communities from 2009-2011. Fisher will commence work in Nanaimo in March.

“The Officer in Charge plays a critical leadership role in Nanaimo, both among the RCMP membership and with Council and senior staff”, said Nanaimo Mayor, John Ruttan. “Chief Constable Fisher’s experience and familiarity with both urban and rural policing issues will add considerable value to the vision Council has set for protective services in our community. We look forward to welcoming Chief Constable Fisher to Nanaimo in March 2014.”

Fisher stated that he is “very excited about the opportunity to work in Nanaimo” and looks forward to moving to Nanaimo with his family.
