$28 Million For More Trails?

That Can't Be Right ........

$20,000,000 For Unexpected Sewage Outfall.........
Now
$28,000,000 for a trail?

Cara McKenna reports in today's Daily News that one item on tonight's RDN agenda includes considering ways to fund a $28.2 million trail to run along the ICF corridor. The article explains the RDN has a 25 year lease with the ICF to construct the trail. There are no details if the trail becomes the property of ICF after the 25 year period.

Do ANY Local Politicians Understand Fiscal Responsibility?

When it was discovered that the sewage outfall pipe was going to have to be replaced much sooner than expected, we were faced with finding funding for this $20,000,000 necessary project. This of course, is primarily paid by the Nanaimo taxpayer, who supply the Lion's share of RDN revenue.

Now, believe it or not, the department of creative spending at the RDN are considering ways to fund $28 million worth of trails along the ICF corridor. For those who don't know who that is, it would be the society that owns the rail line, which does not have passenger trains on it.
