Small Things Do Kill Your Budget

76% of Canadians know they spend frivolously
But have a hard time stopping

This article in the Financial Post begins with the revelation that a 25 year old Toronto real estate agent and her roommate are spending upwards of $4,160 on frozen yogurt each year.

Several poor consumer spending habits are highlighted including the fact that only 24% of consumers are debt free, which is down from 26% the previous year, and more are feeling anxiety about their debts up to 38% from 34%.

Shopping vices are things you regret buying and often involve impulse buys that blow your budget. A credit card company poll reveals our top vices include:
  • going out for dinner 29%
  • buying cigarettes 26%
  • going out for lunch 25%
  • clothing 24%
  • lottery ticket purchases 24%
