Nanaimo Agrees In Principle To Island Ferry Lease

"This is an exciting announcement for the City of Nanaimo.  The addition of a convenient, reliable and affordable passenger ferry service from Nanaimo to Vancouver is a considerable step forward for our community's economy and its tourism sector.  Over the next several weeks City staff will continue to work with representatives from IFS to finalize the details of this important lease agreement."  Mayor John Ruttan

Following discussions with Island Ferries Services Ltd., Council has agreed in principle to move forward with a land lease agreement allowing two ferry vessels space to collect passengers travelling between Nanaimo and Vancouver.

The City of Nanaimo has agreed to supply water and sewage to the waterfront site previously known as the Gadd Marine site, but compete details of the agreement are not yet final.

No further information is available as to any possible start up date for the service which would provide passenger only service from downtown Nanaimo to downtown Vancouver.
