Money Sense measures the quality of life in 201 cities across Canada and this year small cities steal the show. Nanaimo, which ranked 74/200 last year has slipped to 126/200 this year which may at first seem like a calamity of sorts. While you would have to be concerned to a degree over a loss of ranking the fact of the matter is that of all the cities in Canada studied we ranked #126 in a list of 200 places that are considered the BEST PLACES to live in the entire country.
For that matter even our good friends living in Port Alberni may moan the fact they came in #201, but they should celebrate the fact they made the list of the 200 BEST PLACES to live in the entire country.
The following compares Nanaimo with Courtenay, Victoria and Vancouver on several indicators and while our employment numbers need some work overall you really might wonder why anyone would choose Vancouver or Victoria based on income, discretionary spending and most importantly, the number of years it takes to own a home.
