Youth Advisory Council Struck In Nanaimo

Mayor John Ruttan
"I look forward to working with a group of young people that are so invested in Nanaimo's future. I am confident that their fresh perspective and energy will be a great benefit to our community." Mayor John Ruttan

On May 12 the City of Nanaimo's Mayor and Council appointed 12 young people to the newly formed Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC). The Council consists of Alexander Cheung, Aakash Pawar, Bri Odgers, Cassidy Sanford, Claudia Thompson, Coleman Kaps, Kent Macdonald, Mackenzie Cumberland, Madeline Shred, Malcolm Beaton, Samantha Bishop and Sarah Lumley.

They will meet directly four times a year with members of the City of Nanaimo's Council and the Mayor to provide input from a youth perspective on issues facing the local government.

All members of the MYAC are between the ages of 15 - 24 and are appointed for a two year term. This advisory council provides the opportunity for young people to participate in civic governance and have input as to the direction their city takes going forward.
