Millstone Medical Centre

Millstone Medical Centre
Dufferin Crescent & Boundary Ave.

The new strata medical office building at the corner of Dufferin Crescent and Boundary Avenue is nearing completion on the exterior with the interior work and parking still to be completed.

The centre is on the site of what used to be the Chinese Cemetery which was severed off to accommodate two low barrier housing projects. After opposition from the neighbourhood a compromise was reached and only one housing project was to be built on the site. This left half of the severed lot up for private development which has led to the newest building in the hospital district.

There is still a low barrier project to be built immediately behind this centre in the not too distant future. The other project that had been planned for the site was eventually moved to the Uplands Drive area, where it met equally as stiff opposition from the neighbourhood.

There has been some concern expressed by the people near the Millstone Medical Centre that it will just add to the already near intolerable parking issues in the hospital neighbourhood.

This new building and the new VIHA building at Terminal Park are testimony as to how the industry of healthcare is a rapidly growing business in Nanaimo.

  1. Is it true that staff at the centre have been told they are NOT allowed to park in the lot, forcing staff to add to the already congested street parking! Some argue only second worse parking when compared to VIU.

And city hall says it is not 'their' problem?
