Progressive Nanaimo is a new community organization with the stated purpose of promoting good governance in Nanaimo. They held their first open meeting at Beban Park on Wednesday evening which was attended by about forty interested residents including several people intending to run for city council this fall.
According to their mission statement they will be providing a forum for discussion of the principles of good government and will support candidates committed to tangible, measurable goals in the areas of environmental responsibility, economic life of the city, meaningful citizen engagement and transparency in civic affairs.
The group has published both a Twitter and a Facebook page to encourage input from citizens and candidates alike.
