Kudos to someone at Parks and Rec for doing something about the unsightly state of the recirculating pools at Swy-a-lana lagoon which were pretty gross on Canada Day, but are greatly improved for the Silly Boat Races.
Nanaimo is always talking about inventing ourselves as a tourist 'destination' and a place where we want visitors to spend some time coming 'to' rather than going 'through'. It may not seem like much of a deal to us west coasters, but someone here from far away is not going to be encouraged to swim in the lagoon if more attention is not paid to making it more attractive. The 'beach' area still looks pretty sad, and uninviting.
Some regular readers of this blog may find it surprising that I am suggesting doing something that may require more work for city staff. I have no issues with directing staff to do things which improve our overall community, but do take exception to $15 million offices being built without tenders, and car allowances for managers making six figure incomes!
