In case that is not clear it is $35/day/student, not $35/day to teach 15 students, although I suppose even that is better than what they are earning now.
I have no idea whether the general public is coming to the point where they are favouring either side or if they think both sides are to blame in this current mess. Clearly, the BCTF aren't moving, although I don't know if they would have the same mandate if they asked their membership, if they want to stay the course until next year if needed.
Obviously the province is unwilling to talk until certain union demands are off the table, and the mediator has checked out, so the possibility of this issue ever being settled gets bleaker by the day.
So, why not give them both the boot and engage an idea like the one presented above? I don't think it is as far fetched as it first sounds.
