CONTINUING RAINS CAUSE FLOODING IN MORE AREAS OF NANAIMO REGIONAL DISTRICT

Due to a landslide and continuing risk of unstable terrain, Regional District of Nanaimo Chairperson Joe Stanhope has issued a State of Local Emergency and an Evacuation Order for the Little Qualicum River Estates area on Corcan Road in RDN Electoral Area F. Residents of this area are being directed to an Emergency Reception Centre at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, where Oceanside Emergency Social Services will be available to assist them.

An area near the end of Abbey Road, at Cameron Crescent, is directly impacted by the land slide at this time. One home has sustained significant damage, with one resident taken to hospital. Emergency responders have visited all homes above and below the slide, and have advised all residents to leave.
A geotechnical assessment of the area is ongoing to determine the full impact of the landslide.

RCMP are at the intersection of Martini Way and Country Road, directing traffic in and out of the affected area. Residents proceeding to parts of the development that are not impacted by the mud slide are being allowed to proceed past the intersection.

In RDN Electoral Area A, Snuneymuxw First Nation and the RDN are working together on an Evacuation Alert for residents in the Raines Road area. Residents of this area are encouraged to have their personal recovery plans in place, and to stay tuned to local radio stations for updated information.

In RDN Electoral Area G, the residents and pets evacuated from Parry's RV Park on Tuesday, Dec. 9 will be housed away from the area for at least one more night to ensure their safety. A State of Local Emergency remains in effect for this location.
