Trees Cut On City of Nanaimo Land

The City of Nanaimo is looking for assistance from the public in identifying any person or persons involved in a recent unlawful destruction of trees.  On or about November 14, 2014, 12 large native trees were illegally cut down within a newly acquired park property on the north side of Laguna Way near Universal Place.  The trees included two alders, two Douglas firs and eight western large leaf maples.

If any member of the public has information regarding this illegal action or witnessed any cutting activity in this area around November 14th, please contact the City of Nanaimo’s Bylaw Department at 250 755 4422 or the Urban Forestry Coordinator at 250 755 4460.

"The cutting took place on clearly marked public property and would have taken several hours to complete.  This action is a serious contravention of the City of Nanaimo’s Bylaw for the Management and Protection of Trees and the City of Nanaimo’s Parks Bylaw. A person who commits an offence of this nature is liable, upon conviction, to a fine of up to $10,000.00 per tree."
