Nanaimo – TheatreOne is proud to feature first-class talent in the upcoming Emerging Voices dramatic reading, The Long Call by Jenn Griffin.

Staged readings are a very important part of the creative process that allow the playwright to see their script come to life in order to identify areas that may need rewriting and for character development. The ultimate goal is for the script to be produced into a full-length play.

The Long Call opens in the late 1980’s, when Jack, a professional poker player, rescues Holly, a junior stripper, from gunpoint at her soon to be ex-workplace in Fort McMurray. They end up in Vegas where they take up residence in the back lot of The Stardust Hotel. While there, Holly bonds with fellow resident Popi, the Orangutan who performs in the hotel’s nightly animal act. The Long Call is based on actual events.

Amanda Lisman is delighted to participate in Emerging Voices again.  Theatre credits include Venus in Fur (Alberta Theatre Projects); Othello (Segal Centre); Titus Andronicus, The Tempest, Cyrano de Bergerac (Stratford Festival); My Fair Lady, Uncle Vanya, Arms and the Man (Blue Bridge); A Christmas Carol (Belfry Theatre); Pride and Prejudice (Citadel Theatre); and roles with Victoria companies Theatre SKAM, Atomic Vaudeville and Sin City. TV appearances include The Listener, Arrow, Supernatural, Copper, The L.A. Complex, andPsych.

Matthew Payne is a founding member of Theatre SKAM, and now serves as Artistic Producer for the innovative company as they seek to provide provocative live entertainment in Victoria and on tour. Matthew has played numerous roles in SKAM’s 20-year history. Fashion Machine, the company's latest project, sees five professional artists preparing 20+ local children to entirely remake select audience members' outfits. At the Royal BC MuseumMarch 28 & 29.
