Apparently the Siskins only grace Nanaimo every second year, and this happens to be that year. A flock of forty or more have been visiting our feeder over the past two weeks or so.
For all their size they have to be the bitchiest feathered creature on the planet. They will spend as much time and energy driving each other away from the feeder as they spend actually eating.
The above pics capture some of the blurred fury around the feeder as some with flared wings and open mouth threaten others who would dare come in for landing. They will also engage each other in aerial combat, which I have found impossible to capture with my camera.
