Selby Street House Fire - March 9

Abandoned Home On Selby Street Fully Involved

A fire at 10:00 am on March 9 in the 200 block of Selby Street saw six fire apparatus respond to the house fire.

When I arrived the fire had been knocked down and flames were no longer visible but clouds of smoke were billowing from the second floor.

The fire proved to be stubborn with crews working throughout the morning to extinguish hot spots.

" Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews were able to limit the spread of the fire to adjacent buildings. Given the age of the home and the fact that it was abandoned, the fire spread quickly. Thankfully no one was inside the building." Craig Richardson Fire Chief

The Fire Prevention Division has begun investigating the cause of the blaze.
