On December 23, 2014 the City of Nanaimo’s application to the Province of BC for the authority to administer the 2% Hotel Tax (properly called the Municipal and Regional District Tax - MRDT) was approved, effective April 1, 2015. The approval of the application was a notable occurrence as both the MRDT administrative and spending models proposed by Nanaimo are unique in the province.
