Van Isle 360 - 2015 International Yacht Race
Another perfect Nanaimo weather day for race start
The weather could not have been better for the start of the 2015 Van Isle 360 International Yacht race which ends back in Nanaimo after circumnavigating Vancouver Island.
The winds were near perfect for the start, a big improvement over the near flat-calm of yesterday with a brisk NW helping fill sails in the harbour.
The first leg of the race will end later today in Courtenay/Comox with some estimates that the bigger vessels may be able to complete that leg in 4 - 6 hours depending on wind and currents.
The Salvation Army was on hand providing a hardy pancake breakfast for which there was a reasonable charge. Spectators lined the visitors pier and walkway to witness the colourful start as 50+ yachts left Nanaimo harbour.
