According to the Government of Canada website the air quality index for Nanaimo today is listed as 4 which is considered moderate with it forecast to drop to 3 for Tuesday. For a comparison Vancouver ratings range from 6, 7 or 8 depending on which part of the city.
Late yesterday we closed all the windows and turned on our air purifier as the air quality never did improve in the evening (as hoped). After about an hour my wife commented the purifier must be working as her eyes were no longer bothering her. I am not highly sensitive but I was experiencing 'nasal' issues by late afternoon.
I can't personally remember a time when Nanaimo got socked-in like this, as the air usually clears out overnight, but those north-west winds that have been so persistent this past week seemed to have died off completely. There was also a fine dusting of ash on the car this morning and how that particulate factors into air quality I am not certain.
