Slide the City NOT Coming To Nanaimo

Possible Water Shortage of Big Concern

Nanaimo City Council decided not to host the 'Slide the City' event given uncertainties about the amount of water the event might use and whether recirculation would be accepted by VIHA rather than a flow through process.

The event was said to need 80.000 gallons of water to support the flow through system and perhaps 13,000 gallons if a recirculating process could be accepted by VIHA.

If Nanaimo were to go to Level 3 watering restrictions local waterparks will be closed and the event would not have proceeded either. There was a sense on Council that given our current water supply concerns that this event is simply not a good use of resources.

  1. Too bad they couldn't figure out a way to use filtered sea water. We have no shortage of that.
