Martin Mars Water Bomber Not Flying

After coming to an agreement to be used to fight some of the forest fires raging across the Province, the Martin Mars water bomber is not currently flying.

Apparently the company that owns the aircraft only had one pilot certified to fly the plane and are in the process of getting another pilot qualified. Their only pilot is out of commission due to a medical issue.

BC Wildfire Service decides where and when to deploy the different fire fighting assets around the province, so just where the iconic Mars would be used isn't clear.

It is reported that another pilot could be certified as early as next week, although that is not confirmed.

  1. saw the MARS over Parksville late yesterday afternoon. Someone (who should know) said that it was the new pilot on a run for training purposes.
