Nanaimo Leads The Way In Housing Starts

Nanaimo Construction Leading the 'Pack'

The recent CMHC housing report shows that Nanaimo single and multi-family construction is well ahead of other comparable urban centres in the province.

Year to date Nanaimo is seeing a total of 543 new housing starts while Chilliwack has 400 and Courtenay with 260 starts is coming in at less than 50% of the new starts in Nanaimo.

Kelowna, a community we often compare ourselves to with respect to taxation levels is not in the same category of urban centre's falling in the over 100,000 population comparison. Kelowna is seeing 730 starts this year so far, and our neighours to the south in Victoria are reporting 1170 new starts.
