At 7:42 pm PST with votes still to come in the Liberal Party led by Justin Trudeau has been declared to have won a majority government.
As of 7:42 pm with voting not complete the Liberals were leading/elected in 183 ridings, the Conservatives leading/elected in 100 ridings and the NDP leading/elected in 28 ridings.
As one political pundit quipped "welcome to the 1980's"
Note: these numbers are not final but the Liberals have been declared as forming a majority government.
