Poppy Donation Theft Suspect Sought

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a man suspected of stealing poppy donations.

The first theft occurred at the 7-11 at 1602 Bowen Road early Tuesday morning. The theft wasn't noticed until a Veteran Affairs representative came to replace the donation tin. After reviewing surveillance video the store clerk realized a crime had happened.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, a donation tin was stolen from the Beaufort Centre Pharmasave.

Police believe the same individual is responsible for both thefts.

Local businesses are reminded to keep a close watch on donation tins and boxes. Securing them to the counter with a chain or cord is recommended.

If you have information on the thefts contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
