Husky Gas Station Robbery Suspect Arrested

One arrested following robbery of gas station

A 28 year old male has been arrested in connection with an early morning robbery of the Husky gas station, located at 5800 Turner Rd. The robbery occurred at approximately 6:45 am on Sunday December 13, 2015.

Officers responded to a 911 call from an employee of the business who reported a lone male, wearing a mask and dressed in camouflage clothing entered the business and demanded the clerk hand over money from till. No weapon was produced and an undisclosed amount of cash was turned over. The suspect male then left on foot.

Officers responded, along with Police Dog Services, who were able to establish a track for a short distance. Approximately 30 minutes later responding officers stopped a van with two adults, one male and one female, in the areas of McGirr Rd and Hammond Bay Rd. Investigation at the scene lead to the male driver being arrested for the robbery. The female was released with no charges pending against her. The van was subsequently seized. A search warrant is being requested to conduct a search of it for evidence relating to the robbery.

The 28 year old male was taken into custody and released later that same day on a Promise to Appear with police recommending one count of Robbery. His first court date is set for February 23, 2016 in Nanaimo Provincial court.
