Single detached housing starts in Nanaimo decreased in December from 17 in 2014 to 14 in 2015 while multi-family units decreased from 79 in 2014 to 5 in 2015 resulting in a combined total of 19 units in 2015 as opposed to 96 units in 2014.
YTD Total Starts Up 28%
Year to date single detached increased from 318 in 2014 to 384 in 2015, multi-family increased from 347 in 2014 to 466 in 2015 for a combined total of 850 in 2015 from 665 units in 2014 representing a 28% increase .

I guess that developers want to get in before the way long overdue review of Development Cost Charges (DCCs) is done. It has been reported for years that it is coming soon.. I recall Staff saying years ago that each new residential unit costs the city more than is recovered in taxes...
