Pointing Firearm Results In Arrest

Male arrested for pointing firearm

A 33 year old male is in police custody after allegedly pointing a firearm at two individuals early Saturday morning. The male was arrested several hours later without incident and the firearm was seized.

At approximately 9 am on Saturday January 30, Nanaimo RCMP responded to a report that a male had pointed a firearm at two individuals, 3 hours earlier, at a home in the south end of Nanaimo.  Additional information was provided to officers that the male may be in a vehicle travelling in the north end of Nanaimo. A description of the vehicle was provided and it located and stopped near the intersection of Highway 19 and Mallard Way.  The suspect male was found in the vehicle and arrested for firearms offences. The vehicle was searched but the firearm was not located.

Officers continued with their investigation and later attended to a home on Woodhouse St. The home was searched and a firearm was located and seized. The investigation is continuing.

A bail hearing was held later in the afternoon which resulted in the suspect being remanded in custody to Monday February 1 at which time he will appear before a Nanaimo Provincial court judge.
