Ferry Service Delegation - No Show

IFSL President delegation pulled

Dr. Stewart Vinnels, President, Island Ferry Services Ltd. was listed on the agenda for the COW meeting of Feb.22 to brief council on the funding confirmation for Island Ferries.

The reason the delegation was removed from the meeting was not explained and 'yours truly' listened to the entire 5 hour COW meeting waiting for some exciting news about our much anticipated downtown ferry service.

Nanaimo does seem to have a negative response to talk about a downtown ferry and these on-again off-again announcements do nothing to dampen that response.

  4. THE I.F.S.L. ferries were built eight years ago. They told us the ferries are in Singapore. I.F.S.L. has no proven track record in Canadian waters.F.R.S. of Germany has purchased Victoria Clipper and plan on expanding their foot passenger ferry service to the Nanaimo-Vancouver run. Nanaimo would be better off with a proven experienced company.

  5. Not "unbelievable" at all. Entirely typical for Nanaimo

  6. that little self imposed black cloud that hangs over this town :-(

so if this german company has such plans, why not step up and pronounce them definitively ? So far it is only the ex Canadian CEO who 'mentioned' such plans----no one has said "it is so" yet

  8. Was pulled off the agenda at noon based on advice received by the applicant. Island Ferries will be making bid when NPA launches RFP stage, which should be soon. Stay tuned.

    1. I have been 'staying tuned' for over a decade, with Nanaimo's fast ferry situation.

  9. Maybe the IFSL folk are gathering to come at council "full speed" and threaten the city legally over the RFP.(By threaten I mean, sue the city for a chunk of OUR money!) Hasn't the mayor given tips out on this subject before?
