222 Cruise Ships Scheduled In 2016
I thought it might be interesting to compare our cruise ship numbers with our poor neighbours to the south this year. It would seem the cruise ship business is worth pursuing and while some reasons are given for Nanaimo's apparent struggles, it wouldn't appear to be a result of a failing cruise ship industry.
All indicators are for a booming tourism business this year, helped largely in part by our suffering Loonie. It will be interesting to observe what strategies have been developed and deployed by the capable folk at Tourism Nanaimo and the NEDC under the guidance of a new CEO and recently appointed board.
Of special interest will be how the new hotel room tax is being invested in this most important sector of the Nanaimo economy.
