Nanaimo - Duncan pursuit two arrested

Two males have been arrested in Duncan after a pursuit that began in Nanaimo and involved multiple police vehicles from several police jurisdictions. During the pursuit, two police officers from Nanaimo were injured and 4 police vehicles damaged.

Just before 4 pm on Tuesday March 1st, reports were received of multiple gunshots being fired into an occupied vehicle. This vehicle was parked in a residential area of Nanaimo and was adjacent to a children's daycare that was occupied with children.

A witness to the shooting managed to provide a description of the suspect vehicle. Approximately 20 minutes after the shooting, the suspect vehicle was spotted by several Nanaimo RCMP officers in south Nanaimo. These officers followed the vehicle to Ladysmith at which point Ladysmith RCMP became involved. Ladysmith RCMP officers activated their emergency equipment but the vehicle did not stop and continued through Ladysmith, at a high rate of speed. 

The pursuit carried through Ladysmith and eventually into Duncan, where it was eventually stopped at approximately 4:50 pm, at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Cornation Ave. Two suspects were removed from the vehicle and arrested without further incident.

The two males, both in their mid-twenties, have been transported to Nanaimo. The two officers injured during the pursuit are from the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment and have been taken to hospital with undisclosed non-life threatening injuries. 

Although multiple rounds were fired at the vehicle from close range, the lone male occupant was not injured. Due to the vehicle being occupied, the two suspects have been arrested for Attempted Murder and a variety of weapons charges. The two will be making an appearance in Nanaimo Provincial court on Wednesday March 2nd.
