Airsoft Rifle Discharge Leads To Ticket

Report of shots fired
leads to heavy police presence

On Sunday April 17, 2016 at approximately 2 pm, the Nanaimo RCMP responded to reports of shots being fired from an apartment building on Terminal Ave. Callers told police they believed a weapon was being fired from a balcony of an apartment building located at 1050 Terminal Ave north. Due to the nature of the call, numerous officers responded, several armed with Carbine rifles.

Officers quickly located the suspect males and determined the weapon was an airsoft rifle and was being used for target practise in the parking lot below. The two males, ages 20 and 21, were issued a bylaw ticket for discharging a firearm within the city limits and the seriousness of their actions were impressed upon him. Officers were satisfied they did not realize the significance of their actions and were extremely embarrassed and apologetic. The weapon was not seized and investigators were satisfied there would not be a re-occurrence.
