June 6 1944 - D-DAY Normandy Invasion

On June 6 1944 24,000 Allied forces invaded Normandy in Operation Overlord during WWII. This began the invasion of western Europe which was occupied by Nazi forces and ultimately contributed to the victory in the war.

It is reported that German casualties on D-Day were around 1,000 while Allied casualties were at least 10,000 with 4,414 confirmed dead.

I have lived a life in which I was never called to go to war for my country, nor send my son to war for our freedom. For that I count my blessings, as should we all.
