Another building is under construction to help accommodate the growing need for dementia care in Nanaimo at 1917 Northfield Road.

The new facility will be the new home of Travellers Lodge which currently is in their 90 room facility on Nelson Street where the non profit society has operated since 1979. The need for a seniors facility was seen by the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT) organization which began fundraising for a facility in 1945.

The new 127,500 sq. ft. facility will provide a 130 bed dementia care facility primarily funded by Island Health.

The new home is scheduled to open in the spring of 2017 and long time local contractor RW (Bob) Wall Ltd undertaking the contract on a fixed fee basis.
