Dale Schulz - Nanaimo - 'As he sees it' - July 2/16

Lifelong Nanaimo resident, professional artist and illustrator Dale Schulz 'sees' much of Nanaimo many of us simply walk by without giving a second thought.

Through the eyes of an artist the everyday can become almost magical and with a few simple photos of his daily walks, Dale captures and shares some of that magic on his Facebook page.

The following is the most recent example of what Dale sees when he walks about our lovely seaside community many of us just take for granted.

Dale's Post - July 2/16

Indy and I had a super walk today! Into Harewood with a stop at Bosley's in University Village (Harewood Mall) - we saw Nanaimo photographer Sean Fenzl there and said hello! Then we stopped at the fossilized log there near Quality Foods so I could snap a shot. Also shot the bark of a tree beside the parking lot - I liked the deep textures. I laid on my back to get the shot of the Royal Canadian Legion sign on Harewood Road and we spotted an‪#‎abandonedchair‬ on Harewood Road and 4th Street.

On Fitzwilliam Street I paused to shoot some oak leaves hanging over a ground shrub in a rock garden.

After coffee and visits with folks and dogs I took a couple pictures in Maffeo Sutton Park - one that looks like a vintage postcard to me - even with the modern 'Pacifica' building in it - and two of the steps beside the lagoon.

We walked down Commercial Street where I took the picture of the gull and building tops. On Victoria Crescent I spotted a new mural painted where the swirly rainbow one was last week. This one is pretty cool!

OH! - and more art - this one hanging on the cliff in the parking lot on Cavan Street and Victoria Road - thanks Elissa for the 'heads up!'

The last photo is the coal seam in the same cliff face - this is basically 'Nanaimo Ground Zero' The seam that opened the coal industry here.
