Dale Schulz - Nanaimo - "As he sees it" - July 4/16

Lifelong Nanaimo resident, professional artist and illustrator Dale Schulz 'sees' much of Nanaimo many of us simply walk by without giving a second thought.

Through the eyes of an artist the everyday can become almost magical and with a few simple photos of his daily walks, Dale captures and shares some of that magic on his Facebook page.

The following is the most recent example of what Dale sees when he walks about our lovely seaside community many of us just take for granted.

Dale's Post - July 4/16

Though Indy and I walked a familiar route this morning, I found a few new things to take pictures of. The weather kept changing and that kept things interesting photography-wise!

We start with fallen leaves on the path that joins Park Avenue and Connaught Avenue and then some Mallow flowers on Halliburton Street. We saw some HUGE blackberries ripening on Finlayson Street near Esplanade - I think these are a domesticated variety rather than the Himalayan ones we see all over here.

Next I took a couple shots of the 'Tidal Transport' building. This used to be the Nanaimo Stevedoring offices and is an old building with a modernized facade. I remember painting Christmas windows on in that building many years ago.

On the docks I saw some amusing 'sticker-graffiti' on a power box; captured some texture on the bow of a wooden tugboat and got another shot of the Lighthouse Bistro and Pacifica Tower with dramatic clouds and boats in the harbour.

I got another view of the incoming storm over the Freemason's Hall on Commercial Street and that's when Indy and I started the quick walk home.

We did stop a few more times though - shot an architectural detail on the 'Dakin Block' building and a doorway on the Albert Street side of 'The Vault' Café; and some fiery flowers on Railway Avenue.
