Our son graduates from RCMP training

Me missus and I took a road trip recently to Regina Sask. to witness the graduation of our son into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on June 20/16. His graduation followed nearly six months of very intensive basic training designed to sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak.  It is six months of very disciplined training designed to equip the young men and women to maintain the law and order our society often takes for granted.

During the graduation ceremony, at one point all of his troop were assembled single file across the front of the auditorium where they took their oaths. I commented to my wife that the 30 people standing before us were the line that stands between order and chaos in our society. Anyone doubting that, has a very sheltered view of the world.

His graduation and admittance into the RCMP is a bit bitter-sweet as his first posting will take he and family (including our granddaughter) to Nova Scotia, which is about as far away as one can get and still be in Canada. Perhaps this means the missus and me will be considering a summer home on the east coast (where I am told summers put ours to shame) and then return to the wet coast for the winter.

I could go on and on about how well he did in all the areas of his training but I know how nauseating that can be for those who don't have a personal interest, so I will resist the urge.

In any case (realizing I am biased) I must say I have every confidence my son is the sort of man who will bring honour to the Red Serge he has earned the right to wear.
