1800 BC Ironworkers Support BC Liberals

1,800 BC ironworkers endorse Premier Christy Clark and BC Liberals
The union representing more than 1,800 BC ironworkers is endorsing the BC Liberals as the best choice for working women and men in the May 9 provincial election.

Darrell LaBoucan, Ironworkers International’s 3rd general vice-president and the union’s most senior Canadian official, and Local 97 Business Manager Doug Parton made their announcement during Premier Christy Clark’s visit with ironworkers in Victoria today.

“As our members look to the future, we’re highly aware of the need to continue creating jobs by developing infrastructure and obtaining value from our natural resources in an environmentally responsible way,” said LaBoucan. “We support Premier Clark and her team for leading the country in creating good-paying, family-supporting jobs our members count on.”

“Time and again, the BC NDP have said no to projects that create good jobs and paycheques for our members and their families. When it comes to LNG, Site C, and the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion, we need a leader and government with the will to stand up for the interests of working people in BC,” said Parton. “We may not always agree with Premier Clark, but we recognize that her plan for BC’s future is the best one to keep our economy growing and keep our members working. That’s why Ironworkers Local 97 is encouraging our members, their families, and all British Columbians to vote for their local BC Liberal candidate on May 9.”

“I’m honoured to accept this endorsement. Today’s BC Liberals and Ironworkers Local 97 stand together in the belief that a job is the best way to make sure British Columbians are able to look after the people they love,” said Premier Christy Clark. “My team and I will never stop working to make sure that every British Columbian gets the opportunity to build the life they want.”

Local 97’s ironworkers build the structural framework and provide reinforcing ironwork for the concrete involved in building bridges, dams, hospitals, mines, mills, schools and other major projects.
