Downtown Ferry - One Step Closer??

A press release states; the Nanaimo Port Authority, Snuneymuxw and City of Nanaimo are now beginning discussions with Island Ferry to develop a lease agreement for port infrastructure support for passenger only ferry service between downtown Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver.

This sounds like finally a positive step towards the much anticipated downtown to downtown ferry service. It also sounds like we are now back to exactly where we were years ago when IFSL and the NPA first tried to come to an acceptable arrangement to provide this service.

One of the first mentions on Nanaimo Info Blog regards this possible service was in Aug. 2013. Since then this has been an on again, off again story which once again seems to be on again.

There is optimism that if all parties can come to an acceptable agreement we 'could' see a ferry service up and running by late summer or early fall.
