Skeletal Remains Found

Wallet Found Near Remains

Investigators from the Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit report evidence found near the skeletal remains discovered Friday afternoon are that of an elderly male . The skeletal remains were found on an undeveloped lot on Arrowsmith Rd. in Nanaimo.

A wallet was found by investigators and it contained amongst other pieces of ID an BC drivers license that expired in 1991.The person identified in the drivers license was a male with a birthdate of 1919. Officers are presently attempting to find family or friends of the deceased but to date have not been successful."The person identified in the drivers license was not on our local or international police database (CPIC)and was not subject of a missing persons file. It is however not uncommon for older people to sometimes wander away and go unreported. Its sad, but unforturnately true" said Constable Gary O'Brien Media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

The BC Coroners service is involved in the investigation and the remains will still be subject to a forensic examination.Once further information is obtained it will be released.
