Help Cleanup Nanaimo's Shorlines

How would you like to share your bed with cigarette butts, water bottles, plastic bags and other assorted garbage? For aquatic animals, that’s the reality of living along many of Canada’s lakes, rivers, streams and oceans. But help is on the way, with nearly 60,000 Canadians expected to remove the equivalent of 200 garbage trucks worth of trash during the 16th annual TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup (TD GCSC), which kicks off this weekend in communities all across Canada.

“Many Canadians are looking for tangible ways to help the environment, and for 16 years the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup has provided a simple, collaborative and extraordinarily rewarding opportunity to do so,” said Mary Desjardins, Executive Director, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. “We’re urging Canadians to step up, sign up, and clean up this September.”

Last year 302 people participating in the Nanaimo shoreline cleanup removed 1,153 kilograms of trash from the shoreline. Click on the above map for more information about the areas in Nanaimo which will benefit from your efforts.
