Applying For 832 Seat Liquor Licence
It is being reported that the Great Canadian Casino in downtown Nanaimo is applying for a 832 seat liquor licence. Of the company's 17 locations, Nanaimo is the only location not licensed to sell alcohol.
Company spokesmen claim their customers would like to have a drink while at the casino and claim most of their clients are over 40 years of age. They do not intend to offer music or entertainment and do not anticipate people coming in just to buy a drink.
Last year the city of Nanaimo was paid $2,600,000.00 which represented 10% of the casino's gambling revenue. If you are math impaired, that means the casino took in $26,000,000.00 from their 17,000 square foot location.
