25 City Managers In The $100,000+ Club
The above information was supplied by the City of Nanaimo in July of this year. The complete list included over 80 management and exempt staff, only 12 of which were earning less than $70,000 a year.
The Average Earnings of 157 Staff Is $100,000 per year
On the Statement of Financial Information document for the City at the end of Dec. 2009 there was a total of 157 employees (exempt and non exempt) earning in excess of $75,000 per year. This group earned a total of $15,726,293.91 and had expenses totalling $290,235.57.
The total earned by staff earning less than $75,000 annually was $28,432,961.94 with expenses totalling $257,708.08.
The combined remuneration for wages was $44,159,255.85 with an expense bill of $547,943.65. It is not clear if this amount includes all benefits and pension contributions also paid by the city taxpayers.
The total revenue from taxes in the city of Nanaimo for 2009 was $76,595,009.00, which means that 58% of every tax dollar went to pay city wages. It did not buy any sewer pipe or put one foot of water main in the ground.
