City Council Chooses Most Expensive 911 Option

OLIGARCHY:
A form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.
At a time you might have thought this city council was spending countless hours poring over the nearly one billion dollar city of Nanaimo budget to save every tax dollar possible, it comes as a surprise they were actually deciding how to spend even more tax dollars.
The reason? Enter one of the most powerful members of the Nanaimo Oligarchy .... CUPE, who make the hobbyist/lobbyists look like rank amateurs when it comes to controlling the puppets at city hall.
In an unusual move this city council went against a staff recommendation that would have saved tax dollars by choosing to keep the 911 call centre in Nanaimo staffed by CUPE employees, rather than engaging a company on the mainland to provide the same service.
The only two councilors to oppose the move were Councilors McKay and Anderson, the balance of council supporting the more expensive option.
One might wonder when and how the RCMP were allowed to remove 911 service from their 'core services'?
