Another Drunk Driver Off the Road

 RIDD 911 Comes Thru Again
Another drunk driver is off the road thanks once again to the RID 911 program.

On Wednesday night just before 9 o’clock, a concerned citizen called 911 to report an older model green car swerving and weaving along Departure Bay Rd. At one point , the vehicle was actually seen jumping up onto the curb. Officers immediately attended to the area and were able to locate the vehicle a few minutes later before an inevitable accident occurred.

The driver, age 47 , was detained for impaired driving and later provided two breathe samples that were four times over the legal limit.

Due to his impaired state, the driver was held in custody and released in the morning when deemed sober. He was released on a Promise to Appear and charges of Driving while over the legal limit and Driving while Impaired under the Criminal Code of Canada are being recommended. His vehicle was towed and a dog in his care ,was turned over to the Nanaimo Animal Control for safe keeping.

“RID 911 works, we ask everyone on our roads and highways to stay vigilant and make sure they make that call as soon as a suspected drunk driver is seen” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
