Small Confined Cook Fires
& Private Campground Fires Allowed
The Coastal Fire Centre has issued an information bulletin indicating that effective noon September 1st, 2010, campfires will be permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Area with the recent rains and cooler weather patterns central Vancouver Island area has been experiencing.
Although the campfire ban has been lifted, the City of Nanaimo bylaw remains in effect which does not allow open burning within city limits. Small confined cooking fires and private campground fires are permitted under the bylaw.
If you see smoke or signs of fire, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1. For more information on City of Nanaimo Burning bylaw visit www.fire.nanaimo.ca or call the non-emergency line at 250-753-7311.
AUG 2012 Are campfires currently allowed on Departure bay beach?
ReplyDeleteTo be sure call the non emergency number listed above. I believe campfires are banned, however, a smaller cooking fire may be acceptable, but before you start one call....
