Time For A Taxpayer Spending Review

Forget A Core Services Review

The recent decision of council to not have a Core Services Review as put forward by Councilor Kipp could be expected considering that some myopic councilors can only see such a review as a means to cut union jobs at city hall. Given the support the unions give their campaign funds, this support should be expected.

What the opponents of a core services review fail to realize is that properly done such a review should be a 'Taxpayer Spending Review' which takes a serious look at how tax dollars are being spent in Nanaimo and whether or not the taxpayers can sustain the levels of taxation that current service levels demands.

Did you know that since 2001 city taxes have increased by 75% by the end of the 2013 budget and will have skyrocketed to 115% by the end of 2017.

Only people with their noses deeply buried in the public trough would dare say such a trend is sustainable.

The time for a TAXPAYER SPENDING REVIEW  is long overdue, and if those on Council continue to oppose this much needed review, they should not be elected come next election.
