Wire and spikes found on mountain bike trail
on road accessing Barsby Lake
A
local woman made an alarming discovery early this week when she came across a
wire strung at neck level and wooden jagged stakes in the ground, along a trail
used by mountain bike enthusiasts and others.
The
items were found on February 27 and were placed on a logging road
that accesses Barsby Lake, located approximately 13 kms from the Wakesiah Ave
intersection, along Nanaimo Lakes Road. The items were removed and the Nanaimo
RCMP is investigating. Currently no suspects have been
identified.
"These
items could have caused serious injury to an unsuspecting mountain biker or
someone on a dirt bike. There have been no other similar reports in that area so
we are hoping it was a onetime incident. Having said that, we are looking to the
public to assist in identifying who may be responsible", said Constable
Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
If
anyone has information on this incident, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP at
250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. TIPS can also be received
by text at 274637, keyword Nanaimo or can be submitted online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com
